Stirlng to Edinburgh to Beauvais

"Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together..."
We woke up to, guess what?...

At Andrew, the B & B owner's, suggestion, we travelled to Edinburgh via Linlithgow Palace, a wow palace in... Linlithgow, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Amazing. Over 60,000 visitors a year to this "stunningly preserved ruin" but how many people have heard of it? We hadn't!

For a change I got Peter to take a photo of me - didn't he do a good job?

We arrived in Edinburgh and discovered that one really needs to do one's research on exactly where the Europcar drop off is. Documentation said "Waverly Bridge, Waverley train station" however it is actually in "New Street" at Waverly Station. I will be adding this to "Mary's Tips for travellers".  Peter calmly parked the car in an illegal park while Mary "hastily investigated where the friggen Europcar drop off point was as we had about 10 minutes before being charged an additional 24 hours!!

We stayed at the Hollyrood Aparthotel, a bit similar to an Oaks apartment. Excellent location - - one minute walk to the Royal Mile; 10 mins walk from Waverly Station where we dropped the hire car off and caught the AirLink bus to the airport ($AUD 11 for two of us compared by probably $AUD60-70 for a taxi).

We flew to Beauvais , France, with Ryan Air. The plane was full and, although we seemed to be stacked in like sardines, it was a very good flight and we arrived in Beauvais (north of Paris) 15 minutes ahead of schedule. All very efficient. We had collected our bags, gone through customs and collected our hire car in about 20 minutes. I can't imagine that happening in  Australia!

Nancy, our GPS, guided us in no time to the Hotel Victor, a no frills (to say the least) hotel (reception is a laptop on the bar of the restaurant ) but is in a great location right in the middle of town. After taking a walk around the town and seeing the most amazing cathedral (will check it out in the morning), we spent three very pleasant hours in the restaurant/bar this evening. The staff are extremely friendly and the food and wine excellent. It has been a pleasant surprise.

This is the view from our hotel room taken tonight:
